Dear Friends of the Buckeye Lake Museum,

As the weather is getting colder and the holidays are approaching, it is important for us to remember those who are less fortunate. One way to help others is by supporting our annual Kids Community Christmas. The Buckeye Lake Museum participates in a seasonal giving campaign that services families in Licking, Fairfield and Perry Counties. The Salvation Army of Newark identifies families in need.  The museum coordinates a program to purchase toys and clothes for the children and provide Christmas dinner for the families.

There are several ways to contribute:

1. Adopt a child and shop for toys and clothes on his or her wish list. Once purchased, return these gifts to the museum by Sunday, December 14, so they can be prepared for distribution the following weekend.

2. Provide Christmas dinner for a family by donating items for a meal (canned vegetables, apples, oranges and other staples). The Society will be providing food for at least 20 families this year.

3. Stop by the Buckeye Lake Museum between 1:00 - 4:00 Tuesday through Sunday and drop off a check made payable to "Greater Buckeye Lake Historical Society" with a notation in the memo: Kids Community Christmas.

4. Mail a check made payable to "Greater Buckeye Lake Historical Society" with a notation in the memo, Kids Community Christmas, to:

5. Make a donation using a credit card through PayPal:

With members contributing to this program, many residents of our community can enjoy the holidays.  Thank you in advance for helping with this community service.  Remember that with the help of many, much is accomplished.

The Newark, Ohio Salvation Army provided The Buckeye Lake Historical Society with names of families in need. Museum director J-me Braig, Society volunteers and Kay Hartman of the Salvation Army, arranged 21 Christmas baskets for the families.

Each family asked for special requests. Some for food only and others with children asked for what the children wanted from Santa. J-me and volunteers received donations and purchased the requested items. Those and other items supplied from the Salvation Army made up the baskets. It was a super endeavor and hopefully helped make the children and families very happy.

Even bikes were donated for the children who asked. Other boxes contained all sorts of toys, all fulfilling the requests of the families plus other available toys. Christmas wrap to make it possible for the families to do it up right was also supplied.

Each family received two bags. One bag contained perishable items which included ham, bacon, eggs, milk, potatoes, bread and cereal. The other bag contained all sorts of canned goods, peanut butter, even a box of chocolates. You should have seen the expression of joy and happiness the Buckeye Lake residents showed, when they received the gifts for their families.

Volunteers were showered with hugs and expressions of appreciation that made all the efforts worthwhile. As you can see, volunteers wore Santa hats, to show the Christmas spirit.
